Nike NTC Workout App

Image
No longer do I have any excuse for sitting at home during the day when I'm not working, and not doing any kind of exercise! I've never been one to do workout videos, or make up my own exercises. It's all or nothing baby - gym, bootcamp, yoga or nothing. Until... The NTC App - Nike Training Club is like having a "personal trainer anytime, anywhere". It's free from iTunes, which I still can't believe. I dare you to just check it out for the sake of seeing it... delete it if you want but I bet you'll be tempted to try a workout. I think it's amazing use of technology! There are like a hundred different workouts to choose from, varying in length, target area, and difficulty. They have various uses of equipment - from none, to medicine balls, weights, and jump ropes. I have a staff party to go to tonight and felt like it wouldn't hurt to do a 15 minute "Get Focused - Ab Blast" to tighten my tummy just a little before I squee...

It all started with a Groupon...

Image
So, we found a Groupon one day for The Wine Butler . $69 for 28 bottles of red wine? YES PLEASE! We got the " South African Cabernet Sauvignon "... or more appropriately as we call it now, grape juice with alcohol in it. At the time of bottling, we got a huge discount coupon for coming back to create another batch. We knew that our new cheap-o $69 alcoholic grape juice wine wasn't going to be good wine by any means, but we did enjoy a batch we made at a previous wine company and wanted to re-stock.  So, we asked the owner/whoever it was what their most popular wine was, that their customers had good reviews about and kept coming back for. He said definitely the Amarone from their Exceptional Wines selection . So, we bought it and saved $100 off the $209 regular price. We went back to bottle it the other day and... guess what...while it's darker in colour than our first batch, it tastes EXACTLY the same as the Groupon wine. I was so disappointed. We do drin...

"Butterscotch" Cake Batter Cookies

Image
I copied this recipe from Pinterest, again, what a surprise... But did not follow the recipe exactly . I try to use what I already have in the house, as much as I can. I did not have vanilla pudding mix but I had butterscotch. I also had some leftover butterscotch chips from some cookies I made around Christmas, and star shaped sprinkles not round ones. They turned out great! They're very soft and plump, tasty and cute. But I did find them a bit too sweet with the butterscotch. I'd really like to try the vanilla as in the original recipe. Also, they turned out a maple brown color, not white, because of the butterscotch pudding as well... so not as pretty as the pinterest recipe... but still a success overall! Enjoy! Here is the original recipe (Thank you to http://chef-n-training.blogspot.com !) 1 and 1/2 sticks (or 3/4 cup) butter 3/4 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup sugar 1 (3.4 oz/99g) package instant vanilla pudding mix 3/4 cup boxed yellow cake mix 2 eggs 1 tsp...

Orange Creamsicle Cookies

Image
I think I might start trying recipes more than once before posting them online, just in case. However, these cookies are honest-to-hey-zeus my favourite that I've ever made. I used to hate anything with orange zest in it, but I love orange creamsicles and these really do taste like them! These turned out way, way, way tastier than I ever expected... my boyfriend thought so too :) If my description below of the dough seeming dry before baking doesn't happen to you, leave that to my needing to try recipes more than once before posting :) Good luck and enjoy! Ingredients: 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour 3/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 firmly packed brown sugar 1 large egg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 tablespoons orange zest (for me that was the zest of about 2 large oranges) 2 cups Guitard Choc-Au-Lait Vanilla Chips (I used white chocolate chips [ChipIts]) What to do:  Preheat oven to 375 degrees....

Running a half marathon?!?!!?

Image
I have only done a "real" run four times in my life - three 'Run for the Cure's and one Tim Horton's 'Chilly Chase"', all were 5km. I've always been impressed by people who accomplish longer runs, like even 'just' a 10km, or a half marathon (21km I think) and especially full marathons/triathlons. I think sometimes people say from the very beginning "oh man, no way, I just am not built for that... I could never do it". Which I have said a few times about long distance runs any longer than 5km. I wonder though, if it really is possible. A friend of mine, someone I've known since Kindergarten, she says she's done a few of these half marathons with little to no training. She just "does it", pretty much. Well, she's now asking me to train with her for the Goodlife Half Marathon on May 6, 2012 .We both belong to the same gym, and live so close together, and have both always had similar sports inte...
